2014 WFFC 7th Annual Sensory Trend Excursion
On June 3rd, 2014, 25 people attended the seventh annual WFFC Sensory Trend Excursion in the fashionable neighborhood of Soho, NY. We visited five unique vendors and got to taste a variety of eclectic samples. Each shop had their own approach to marketing their products and telling their brand’s story. Our first stop was Georgetown Cupcake, which offered several creative cupcakes including gluten free and vegan choices. The group tasted the Chocolate Salted Caramel, Vanilla2 with Buttercream Frosting and Vanilla Birthday Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting cupcakes. They were moist and delicious! Our next stop was Chobani Soho, a Mediterranean yogurt bar that featured unusual yogurt recipes. We tasted all of the savory selections including Cucumber & Olive Oil, Hummus & Za’atar, Mango & Avocado, Zucchini Pesto & Tomato, Red Pepper Harissa & Feta and Smoked Salmon. To boot, we also sampled Pistachio & Chocolate, Chobani’s best sweet seller. The attendees were pleasantly surprised at how many different savory ingredients were used and how well balanced the creations were. Our palates continued to be enticed with our visit to Xocolatti, an artisan chocolate shop that blends exotic ingredients. Following the savory theme, we tried the Olive Oil & Basil truffle and Saki truffle; both were delicious. On the fragrant side of our tour, we stopped by Bite Beauty Lip Lab where attendees selected one of three customized lipsticks that were curated just for them and made to order right on the spot. For lunch we dined at the Mercer Kitchen, one of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s fantastic restaurants. Osswald, a Swiss boutique known for their exclusive high-end fine fragrances and skin care, was our final stop where we smelled scents inspired by events and experiences. The day was packed with exciting venues and attendees not only left full, but inspired. The sold out event was an enormous success thanks to the support from our WFFC members. Once again, Amy Marks-McGee and Jeanine Pedersen organized an educational and seamless event.
